Why You Can't Think Your Way to Feeling Safe

What happened when I stopped trying to heal in my head and started healing through my feet

In this post:

  • Why your spiritual practice is stuck without a solid foundation

  • The science behind grounding that your grandmother already knew

  • A 34-minute audio from my life-changing vortex hike in Asheville

  • How earth connection transforms your entire chakra system

How to read: Read through "The Asheville Awakening," listen to the audio, then come back to finish reading.

As I shared in part 1, your root chakra keeps you anchored to this world like the roots of a tree. But here's a lil nerdy fun fact most people don't know - each chakra has an element, and the root chakra's element is earth. That information alone gives us so much insight into how to heal and work with the root chakra.

For years I heard people talking about grounding or being grounded, but I never really understood what they meant by it. When it came to my spiritual journey, I was too focused on the mind + soul to ever really understand how powerful the body was and give it the priority it deserved.

And honestly? I wasn't alone in this. Pop culture loves talking about mind, body, and soul as this beautiful trifecta of wellness, but let's be real - most of us are obsessed with the upper chakras. We want the psychic downloads, the third eye activations, the powerful crown chakra connection. Most people are out here trying to astral project while their physical bodies are screaming for basic safety and grounding.

It's so much easier to float around in the spiritual realms than it is to actually be present in our bodies and this hot mess of a world. But here's what I learned the hard way: you can't build a solid spiritual practice on a shaky foundation. You can meditate for hours and journal until your hand cramps, but if you don't feel safe in your actual body, you're just spiritually bypassing your way to more disconnection.

When we use spiritual practices to avoid the messy human stuff, we miss the whole point and end up stuck in the same patterns with prettier language. The truth is, you can't heal what you won't feel.

Getting grounded forces you to be present instead of dissociating.

THIS IS THE REAL WORK.

What Grounding Actually Does

Grounding isn't some hippie concept - it's practical medicine that's free and available 24/7.

Real grounding means your nervous system remembers what safety feels like. When you're truly grounded, you're not living in "what if everything falls apart" anxiety or "can I really trust them" spirals. You're here, now, held by something more stable than your racing thoughts.

Think about being little and scared - you wanted to run to your mom or grandma, somewhere safe and solid. But what happens when the people who were supposed to provide safety become the source of pain? Your nervous system gets stuck scanning for danger, never fully relaxing.

This is where Mother Earth becomes your greatest ally. She offers what your nervous system desperately needs: a foundation that can't be shaken, love that can't be withdrawn, presence that will never abandon you.

As your nervous system learns to trust earth's support, you develop greater capacity capacity to hold the full range of the human experience without getting knocked over. You can feel disappointment without crashing out, experience joy without bracing yourself for pain, receive love without pushing it away or overanalyzing it death. You can feel all of your feelings without being overwhelmed.

This is a KEY part of manifestation because how will all the grand things you desire manifest if your body doesn’t have the capacity to hold them energetically?

The Science Your Grandma Already Knew

When you connect with earth - skin to soil, trees, grass, water, plants - your body remembers what you forgot. Research shows that just 20 minutes of direct contact with the earth improves your heart function and reduces stress hormones like cortisol.

Abuela been knew this - why else did she love the campo life, have plants everywhere and send you outside when you were acting up? She understood that touching the ground literally grounds your nervous system.

The Asheville Awakening

Take a listen to the 34-minute audio at the top of this post, then come back here for how this connects to the bigger picture of root chakra healing.

Life changing Vortex Hike in Asheville, North Carolina February 2022

Why This Changes Everything

Mother Earth offers truly unconditional holding. No bad days, no projected trauma, no ghosting or disappearing when things get complicated. Just consistent, patient, forever love.

When you're held this way, your nervous system reorganizes around safety instead of threat. You stop bracing for impact. You no longer live life as if you’re waiting for the other shoe to drop. Fear and anxiety can’t control you. You finally start feeling safe being in your body and can truly breathe.

I’ll never forget how liberated I felt the moment I achieved inner safety. I cried for 2 hours straight of joy and sadness. Joy because I could finally exhale without fear and sadness because I had spent most of my life holding my breath bracing for impact.

Your Invitation to Connect to Earth Medicine

If you're tired of hypervigilance and ready to actually live in your body - Mama Earth is waiting for you.

Start simple: observe the flowers and plants on your next walk. Put your bare feet on grass for five minutes. Sit against a tree. Touch soil with your hands.

But honestly? Sometimes the most radical grounding practice is just taking a damn nap. An outside nap on the earth gets you bonus points, but even in your bed, you're practicing the sacred art of letting yourself be held. Rest isn't lazy - it's sacred. It’s a huge reminder that its ok to slow down, to be held, to simply exist without having to justify your presence. Rest is revolutionary. Rest is resistance.

This is root chakra healing at its most fundamental. When your foundation chakra feels truly supported by something that can’t disappoint you, can't betray you, can't make you question your worth - everything else shifts.

Your sacral chakra can flow with creativity because you're not stuck in survival mode. Your solar plexus chakra can burn with confidence because you know you're backed by something infinitely powerful. Your heart chakra can open without armor because you trust that you're held.

But it all starts here, at the root, with your relationship to the earth beneath your feet. This is how you remember that you belong here, that you're safe here, that you're home. This is how you come home to yourself.

And when you finally feel at home in your body - when safety lives in your bones instead of just your thoughts, everything about how you experience the world transforms. Including how you relate to money.

Coming next week: healing the money wounds I didn't even know I was carrying. How I worked through the exhausting cycle of abundance and panic that has had my family in a chokehold for generations.

With love,

Ada
